Course Description
This training course aims to provide participants with an understanding of the objectives, principles, and processes of geometric road design and develop skills required for the design of typical rural roads using relevant highway design software. This subject will also impart knowledge and skills for the participant to produce traffic impact studies and demonstrate the importance of traffic management measures that include emerging traffic control systems.
The training course will cover road cross-section elements and drainage structures, the design of horizontal alignment, the design of vertical alignment and calculations of earthworks, road classification system, and traffic impact analysis and traffic management measures.
What Do Participants Learn?
- Identify the objectives and principles of road geometric design and how to address them through proper selection of design inputs
- Summarise relationships between horizontal and vertical alignment geometry and driver safety and comfort
- Apply current guidelines in the design of road geometric elements using relevant software
- Demonstrate an understanding of the functional classification of roadway systems and produce traffic impact assessment reports
- Demonstrate the importance of Traffic Management Measures including “Intelligent Transport Systems”.
